Our company was born just after midnight on Sunday November 27th, 2005. That is when two people first had an idea that would give a revolution to the knife industry.

It was a little after 2:00 A.M. I believe it was when Andy Porter and Kristian Naugle were making their first prototype using their innovation. They had been practicing on making decorative patterns in pieces of aluminum and while Andy was filing the rough edges off of a piece of aluminum, he said something that gave Kristian an idea. Andy had talked about putting an edge on aluminum to be used for cutting. So Kristian grabbed a section of aluminum flatbar, cut it to a usable length, cut a point into it, and then Andy began using a file to shape it into a knife. As Andy was filing the blade into shape, he consulted with Kristian almost every step of the knife making process so they could make something that both people agreed to the quality of. Andy decided that the knife should have a seraded edge, so he took his set of small files and put teeth on the blade. While the two people were working on the knife, they had a conversation about what people would think of a person who actually handmade their knives. Both Porter and Naugle were thinking of the humorous things to say in response to people who would question their actions when making a knife. They decided to use a phrase that would help people believe that they were out of touch with reality. So they decided to say that they were making something as innocent as a "carousel" because a carousel was something known to be used to make children happy at an amusment park. This was Naugle and Porter's inside sick joke. But later that day, they decided that their aluminum knife producing company that they started would be called Carousel. The hours passed as they made their first knife. During that time both people would add their ideas to making the knife and took turns actually making the knife. For some periodic breaks they would take their first knife out for a test when it got daylight. They pretended that they were stabbing problematic people of the society who had refused to properly treat them because of their neurological differences. Then they would practice their throwing techniques with the knife. Aluminum prooved to be a very good choice in making a knife because in the event of the enemy taking your knife from you, the imbalance of our blade made it effective in defeating the ability of the enemy to throw the knife successfully into your body. As they were shaping the blade and sharpening it with a set of files, a person had walked through the room where they were and asked them what they were doing, Andy replied by saying, "I'm making a carousel". Then Andy and Kristian were laughing a whole lot, mainly Kristian was laughing the most because they had both forseen the advent of someone questioning their actions of knife making. They were both suprised how soon they would need to use their "carousel" phrase. Because of how soon someone had questioned them and because of the response they got, that is what was so humorous to them. They spent a little more than 12 total hours on making that knife. But that is because they had never made a knife before. Then they decided to put decorative swirl marks in the blade so Kristian used his Dremel and a wire brush accessory to swirl the metal. For a handle, they searched around the yard and found some old latice that had been left out in the rain for a few years. It looked like it would be suitable and so they broke off a piece and sawed it into two pieces of equal length. Mounting the blade into the handle was something they debated for maybe an hour or two. So they got some epoxy and decided to glue the pieces of wood on each side of the handle portion of the knife. That took a little time but the bond of the handle would be strong because they used epoxy that had a tensile strength of 1500 PSI. After the epoxy was hardened, they had to do some work on shaping the handle. Then it was break-time again, this time they decided to sacrifice some apples to the blade. They would practice batting with the knife and use apples like baseballs. They destroyed a whole bag of apples doing this. Later they decided to woodburn the company name into the handle on both sides. Then they cleaned the knife and Naugle painted the blade with blue and yellow translucent paint to give the knife an elegant look. They also decided to finish the wooden handle with lemon oil for a simple and natural wood look. Their first knife project was made.
